Soldier sends flowers from Afghanistan

February 15, 2011

Miriah Corey, 19, has been missing her husband Juan since he was deployed to Afghanistan in October through the Army Reserve. When Valentine's Day came around, the last thing she was expecting was a bouquet of flowers from her beau, according to The Jamestown Sun.

"I think about him everyday, I write him almost everyday too," she told the news provider. "It gets pretty lonely here."

But it seems that Juan also thinks about his wife everyday and he was determined to send flowers overseas, especially since he missed celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and their anniversary. So, he carefully saved his limited phone minutes to ensure that they blossoms would arrive to his wife on time for the holiday.

While the couple was unable to exchange any words on the day, the flowers were there to remind Miriah that he was always thinking about her.

Receiving a surprise batch of flowers from a faraway loved one appears to be a common theme this month. Joyce Koplitz found a beautiful floral arrangement on her desk when she got to work on the morning of Valentine's Day, according to The Wausau Daily Herald. They were sent from her husband, even though he's currently living in Florida for retirement.
