Fresh flowers are an appreciated staple of spring all around the world - regardless of age or location. A campaign held in Qatar, A Flower Each Spring, has recently been launched to encourage students from five local schools to participate in the planting of new buds, according to The Gulf Times. It is expected to last for around 12 weeks.

Pupils were whisked away with parents and teachers to a local beach to learn about Qullam, the beautiful bud chosen to be recognized during this year's celebration. This unique shrub has branches and "succulent" leaves, the news source reports.

The 300 students who participated in the event also took the time to plant saplings in the desert around the area. Different groups will be taken to the beach on field trips every Saturday until the end of May.

Dr. Saif al-Hajri, the chairman of the annual campaign committee, used the time to expound on the importance of biodiversity in the region, as well as the conservation of the environment.

In Sikkim, India, orchids are making a big splash. The country has even taken the time to promote the importance of the bud for the local economy, according to Asian News International.
