Spring is officially here, and if you're a die-hard gardener or lover of fresh flowers, there are a few places around the world that boast majestic spring blooms. According to the Toronto Star, fans of gorgeous flowers can hit up a few of these wonderful countries and cities in order to see new life blooming around the globe.
The journey to check out fresh flowers starts in Ottawa thanks to a longstanding tradition. The Dutch government gifted the city with tulips and ever since, Ottawa has been hosting the Ottawa-Gatineau Canadian Tulip Festival, which runs from May 3 through May 20. The news outlet reports the festival is rumored to be the largest tulip event in the entire world, boasting over 1 million bulbs a year.
Texas Hill Country, Texas
Flower enthusiasts looking to explore the best blooms while enjoying some Southern charm should head to the countryside just outside of Austin, Texas. Regions like Fredericksburg and San Antonio are especially nice during spring. Even though some gorgeous flowers bloom on their own, state officials also help more grow by scattering approximately 30,000 pounds of lupines and other flower seeds around the state.
According to American Meadows, lupines are a popular plant, mainly because they can grow almost anywhere due to their love for sandy soil. They come in a variety of colors, though the ones in Texas typically have blue and purple hues.
If you've got your passport up to date, it could be a great idea to jet over to Holland in pursuit of fabulous flowers, the Toronto Star reports. The nation is naturally one of the best places for tulips and other spring blossoms to grow with ease, meaning you're bound to see fields of the colorful flowers if you visit. Another reason to make the trek to Holland? A chance to visit Keukenhof Gardens, dubbed as the "world's most beautiful spring garden," according to the news outlet.
The gorgeous garden space is home to more than 32 acres of flowers, whose beauty has been the inspiration for everything from flower shows to home gardens for people around the globe.
Japan is the place to go if you're interested in marveling at natural cherry trees, but if a trip around the world isn't in your immediate future, a trek to the nation's capital might be a close second. According to the National Cherry Blossom Festival's official website, the cherry tree blooming in Washington, D.C., started April 4 and the pink blossoms will continue to flourish through mid-to-late April.
