Relaxation Tips for the End of Summer

It’s hard to believe that the end of summer is near, especially when most of this year has felt like one long month to begin with. Whether you’re preparing to start another school year – or help a little one get back into the habit of at-home learning – you might feel a little more stressed than usual. But it’s still technically summer, and you should be enjoying the last days of pure sunshine to the fullest extent.

Don’t let the idea of summer ending keep you from having a fun, stress-free time with family members and close friends. Here are a few simple relaxation tips to cope with the end of the sunshine season:

Try Deep Breathing Throughout the Day

Have you ever taken a moment to step back, relax and concentrate solely on your breathing? Taking just a few deep breaths is one of the top relaxation techniques recommended by professionals. Set an alarm on your phone or write it in your daily planner so you don’t forget.

Practice Yoga

Yoga is another great option for practicing balance and mindfulness, and it’s also great for your physical well-being. If you’re new to yoga and you’re not familiar with beginner’s poses, there are plenty of videos and educational resources available online that can help you become a yoga pro in no time.

Draw a Bath

After a long, hard day playing outside with the kids or working a 12-hour shift, sometimes the only thing you want to do is find some alone time. With a nice, warm bath, you can achieve just that. Set aside even a half hour in the night to fill up the tub and grab some essential oils or your favorite bath bomb and bubble solution to concoct your own spa-like experience. Light a few candles and grab a glass of wine – if you’re of age – and let the relaxation begin.

Consider Art Therapy

Have you ever let your creativity run wild on a piece of paper, canvas or other foundation for a masterpiece? You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to create a piece of art. Make something for fun or one to gift to a loved one.

Take Aromatherapy and Color into Consideration

Did you know that there are certain scents that can take your mind to a completely different place? Lemon, lavender, jasmine, rosemary, peppermint and cinnamon are a few of the greatest scents that can enhance your mood and even increase productivity levels. Place candles strategically throughout your house or consider diffusing essential oils for the same effect.

You can also place flowers throughout your house for color boost. Teleflora’s Lavender Laughter bouquet, for example, is made up of white alstroemeria, miniature lavender carnations, white chrysanthemums and waxflower, and is accented with fresh pittosporum and lemon leaf. Many of our bouquets can set the relaxing tone you’re trying to achieve throughout your home at the end of summer just by adding certain colors to the room.
