TELEFLORA GIVES SMILES TO THOUSANDS
LOS ANGELES, August 11, 2006 – Teleflora, the world’s largest floral services and products company, dedicated to growing the businesses of retail florists, recently sponsored Make Someone Smile® Week, the industry’s leading benevolent project. Teleflora enlists thousands of their member florists nationwide to deliver floral arrangements in the company’s keepsake Be Happy® mugs to those most in need of a smile: hospital patients, children at foster-care facilities, residents of nursing homes and others who might need a lift.
More than 9,000 florists across North America volunteered their time and resources to deliver over 35,000 floral arrangements. 8,000 plush bunnies were also delivered to children who weren't able to receive flowers due to their illnesses. These bouquets and gifts brought smiles and tears to patients in veteran’s hospitals, cancer facilities, Ronald McDonald Houses and Meals-On-Wheels programs.
Developed by Teleflora in 2003, Make Someone Smile®Week has grown to become one of the floral industry’s most successful cause-related initiatives in North America. Since its inception, the growth of the program has been exceptional. In the first year, over 8,000 arrangements were delivered throughout North America. The number rose to 17,000 arrangements in the next year and increased to over 25,000 by last year.
"Teleflora is honored to lead this national benevolent project and feels a sense of responsibility to continue supporting this worthwhile cause," said Rich Salvaggio, Teleflora’s vice president of industry relations and publications. "Flowers evoke an emotional response from people and our Unit member florists understand the importance of giving flowers."
Teleflora works with its national network of Units, who in turn work with local wholesalers and growers to secure flower donations. Teleflora donates all of the keepsake Be Happy® mugs. The Units, along with thousands of local Teleflora member florists, work to make this benevolent project such a success.
