Meet a Flower - Stock

by Nicole

June 04, 2010

Today, I'd like to introduce you to a flower that you may know by looks, but not by name . Stock is a very popular flower in arrangements from Teleflora, but it's one of those blooms that many people may not be able to put a name to.

Stock is the name most people call this flower, though it's also known as 'Virginia stock' or by it's botanical name Matthiola, of which there are several varities, including Matthiola incana, Matthiola sinuata and so on.

The website Flower Library tells us that the flower was given its botanical name to honor the Italian botanist Pierandrea Mattioli, who lived back in the 16th century.

Stock is available in many colors, from white and cream into vibrant purples and reds. People on our Facebook Page noted that they love stock for its light, pleasant scent.
