Vietnam to select national flower
by
webdev
January 27, 2011
A very unique event is set to take place in the at the upcoming Spring Flower and Drinks Fair in Ha Noi, Vietnam - the country will select a national flower, according to Vietnam News. As such, the festivities will offer visitors a fair share of
flower gifts
and the sights of many beautiful buds that are contending for the title.
One of the leading candidates is the lotus petal, which will be displayed through a photographic exhibit, but that is by no means the only flower that the country is considering. Others include orchids, as well as peach and apricot blossoms.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will count the votes for the national flower and announce the winner on Friday. Other titles, such as the national costume and national wine, will also be doled out at the event.
The Lotus Spirit Gala is set to take place on Friday, the same day that the verdict will be announced, and many artists will be creating pieces that reflect the important of these
holiday flowers
.
The lotus is symbolic in many cultures, because the bud starts in the mud and blooms out through the water, reaching toward the sunlight. This special imagery has been known to mean rebirth, purity, the struggle for creativity and enlightenment.
