Tourism booth wins award three years in row

A booth that incorporated fresh flowers, landscaping and other beautiful decorations in its design has won the Cleanest and Greenest Booth and Best Landscaped Booth awards three years in a row, according to The Philippine Information Agency.

The display, which was advertising Tourism-Region 1 - including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan - was judged at the Session Road in Bloom, which took place in Baguio City from February 28 to March 6. It was largely designed by Director Martin Valera, who sought to exhibit a number of different activities that are possible when traveling through the regions of the Philippines.

In addition to the flowers, there were bamboo stalks and wood carvings and hand-crafted butterflies set up around a fountain.

The third consecutive win for the display means that it will be inducted into the event's hall of fame.

In 2000, tourism to the Philippines generated approximately $2.1 billion. The country has seen a significant uptick in the number of visitors in recent years. In 2009, a record of 5.2 million tourists traveled to the nation, up from 3.4 million in 2007.
