Tips on keeping weeds away

by webdev

July 12, 2011

The last thing any gardener wants is something that takes away from their beautiful summer flowers, especially weeds. There are some ways, however, to keep these inevitable weeds at bay, according to the County Times.

The best practice is to weed a little bit each time, and to do so often. The small weeds are better to take out because it disturbs less soil and there is a higher chance that weed seeds will end up back on the surface with the larger plants. In addition, corn gluten can be a gardener's best friend as it prevents annual weed seed germination once applied to a bed. Mulch can also be a useful tool to get it away from the sun, the news source reports.

According to the Barnstable-Hyannis Patch, weeding is inevitable, and sometimes it is important for people to change their attitude towards it, especially when they hate the task. The Patch suggests viewing it as a form of meditation to enhance the chore.
