Summer flowers planted early in Michigan

March 31, 2011

Michigan's chilly March mornings do not offer a healthy environment for flowers to flourish. However, a group of women have picked out and planted their flowers for this summer with the help of a local greenhouse, according to Michigan Live.

Sandy Ridge Farm in Borculo, Michigan offers potting parties called Annual Ambiance, which consist of individuals choosing arrangements for their summer flowers, and planting them. The farm takes care of the plants in its greenhouses until May. People who wish to participate have to make a reservation, bring a planter and a few friends. These parties are offered every Saturday in the month of March.

“We thought potting parties would be a fun way to have people get all their potted arrangements ready for summer,” the farm co-owner Sarah McKenney said to the news source.

In West Bloomfield, Michigan, a greenhouse is not just a place to store flowering plants. Instead, it is a showroom with an interior landscape design of various flowers and plants, which may give viewers ideas for their own homes, according to The Seattle Times.
