Spider-Man bashers get passive-aggressive bouquets

Conan O'Brien was the most recent talk show host to receive a bouquet of fresh flowers from the producers of the Spider-Man Broadway musical.

The makers of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark have apparently been using the blooms as a tongue-in-cheek thank-you gesture to comedy shows who have been making fun of its spotty production. The show suffered multiple delays, on-set injuries and several goofs during its recent premiere.

According to the New York Observer, Conan received a bouquet with a note that read, "We wanted to thank you for your tribute to our show, but we couldn't decide what to send. We hope you enjoy the flowers - it was cheaper than a cease and desist."

Flowers are a traditional way to support and congratulate theatre performers. According to DrDaveAndDee.com, the best time to present the bouquet is either before or after the show, usually in the lobby or dressing room. Flowers are acceptable for both female and male performers, the latter of which tend to prefer various blooms including lilies, orchids or irises, reports the website.
