Prom-goers: Don't forget the flowers!

Spring signals the beginning of another important season for many high school students - the prom. And while many teens and their parents have already begun making plans for the big night including buying dresses, renting tuxedos, securing a limousine and purchasing tickets, experts say they shouldn't forget about the prom flowers.

Floral experts say prom-goers should order flowers for their dates about a week in advance to ensure they get exactly what they want.

"There are times we may run out of specific flowers," a local florist told the Reno Gazette Journal. "Usually the roses go first or the orchids."

The good news is that many spring flowers are readily available this time of year to ensure you find something you want and to help keep costs at a minimum.

While pin-on corsages may have been popular years ago, most teenage girls prefer a wrist corsage or hand-tied bouquet of flowers they can hold for pictures.

Just as many guys ask their dates what color their dress is before choosing a tuxedo, they should also ask their date about her gown in order to choose flowers that complement it. Couples may even choose to order corsages and boutonnieres together so they coordinate.
