Orchids on display at Texas botanical garden
by

September 15, 2010
Orchids are among the many flowers in bloom at the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The botanical gardens offer many sights for students, families and flower enthusiasts. The garden's collection of 2,000 orchids sets it apart from other
floral
sites in the Texas area, reports The Del Mar College Foghorn. Additionally, the reserve serves the people of Corpus Christi.
"We are truly a community botanical garden. We are non-profit and primarily supported through memberships and admissions and fundraising," executive director of the botanical gardens Dr Michael Womack told the news source.
In addition to the orchids, the park includes a butterfly house, a rose garden and a large variety of wildlife that residents of the city may not see in their everyday life.
Womack told the news outlet that the gardens are currently building new flowerbeds for a tropical garden, and in the spring they hope to
plant
a tropical fruit orchard.
Orchids are beautiful flowers that can add a touch of elegance to any arrangement. Orchid
bouquets
flourish in dim lighting, as direct sunlight can damage the petals, according to BeautifulOrchids.com.
