Minnesota celebrates the lady slipper

by webdev

June 22, 2011

For the first time in history, the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway Committee will be hosting the Lady Slipper Festival. The event will take place over the course of two weekends in two separate locations - on June 25, the flower will be celebrated in Black Duck, Minnesota, while on July 1 and 2 residents of Cass Lake will be treated to the fun, according to The Bemidji Pioneer.

The committee selected Cass Lake because it is believed that the Lady Slippers there will be in full bloom. The summer flowers were selected to be the state's flower in 1902, according to the news source.

The Lady Slipper Scenic Byway Committee works to maintain the population of lady slippers in the state. In addition to guided nature walks and tours, there will be live music, food and art exhibits.

Kids are welcome to come to the show, and there will even be some special events for them, such as face painting and coloring.

Lady slippers are a gorgeous pink and white flower, and they make an excellent addition to any summer flower bouquet. Those who missed out on father's day this year may want to consider including the flower in a bouquet gift for dad.
