Louisiana garden club to host show
by
webdev
November 02, 2010
The Baton Rouge Garden Club, which has been in existence since 1929, hosts a yearly show that features a variety of local talent and blooms. At the exhibit, the South Flower Show and Tea event, the club members create flower displays that are judged by a panel of experts.
This year, the event was scheduled for Saturday, October 30, according to TigerWeekly.com.
Nearly 64 members were slated to enter their arrangements of
fresh flowers
and blooming beauties, the news source reports.
"I had a very large garden when I lived in New Orleans, it was a lot of upkeep," Beth Rush, the publicity chairwoman of the club for 2010, told the news source before the event. "Now I live in a condo and have a patio garden, which is a nice break."
The club members also help to keep the local botanical and butterfly gardens in working order, according to the news source.
The magnolia is the Louisiana state flower, according to 50States.com. The blossom, which grows on an evergreen tree, boasts milky white petals and a pungent, sweet scent. They make an excellent addition to a southern-inspired gift
bouquet
