London celebrates summer Olympics countdown with flowers

The 2012 Summer Olympics are now less than 100 days away and people in London recently celebrated the countdown to the games with the new slogan "Inspire a generation." The Press Association reports a launch event for the slogan and the upcoming games took place at Kew Gardens.

During the gathering, event goers got to witness the unveiling of the giant Olympic rings made on the lawn created entirely out of 20,000 fresh flowers. Flights of Olympic hopefuls will be able to see the display of blue, yellow, black, green and red flowers as they descend at Heathrow airport.

Sebastian Coe, London 2012's chairman, spoke during the unveiling at Kew Gardens, telling the press and those in attendance that he is "delighted by the motto" for the upcoming games. He also marveled at the gorgeous natural display on the lawn.

"Around the world, the excitement is growing and expectations are high but I am confident that Britain and London will deliver a great sporting event and a warm welcome too," Coe said during the unveiling.

Although you probably aren't making the trek to London to see the summer games, you can still represent the spirit by purchasing affordable flowers to decorate your home with. A bouquet like Teleflora's One Fine Day may be a perfect centerpiece for celebrating the countdown to the summer games. This collection of roses, carnations, tulips, matsumoto asters and green button mums represent almost all of the colors of the Olympic rings. Plus the cheap flowers come in a stylish glass cube vase that can be used to house more gift flowers as the games near.
