It's never too late to celebrate grandparents

National Grandparents Day may have come and gone, but it is never too late to show grandparents that you appreciate them.

Grandparents are a family's key to the past - connecting all members of the family to a common source. In a growing number of families, grandparents are serving as caregivers, whether because parents have to work more or can no longer afford child care.

Families across the nation celebrated the 32nd annual National Grandparents Day, proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in 1979. Carter declared that the holiday would take place the Sunday after Labor Day each year to celebrate the 17 million grandparents in the nation. Today, America is celebrating the more than 70 million grandparents across the nation.

Whatever the role grandparents play in your family, they deserve a day, week, month or more of recognition and celebration. Flowers are a perfect grandparents gift.
