How to celebrate Earth Day
by

April 19, 2012
Earth Day is fast-approaching, and many throughout the U.S. are planning to do their part to protect the environment this April 22. There are countless ways for families to make a difference. Although it's important to give back on this day, it's also just as crucial to celebrate all the environment has to offer.
Make treats for backyard animals
A great outdoor activity that your kids will enjoy doing is making pine cone bird feeders that can be hung in trees around your yard. All you need for this fun project is pine cones, yarn or wire, peanut butter and bird seed. First tie the string around the top of the pine cones to create a hook. Then douse the pine cone in peanut butter and roll the cone around in bird seed. Finally, let the kids place the treats and watch as birds come to snack.
Go for a hike
Embracing nature is a great way to enjoy Earth Day. Families can look up local trails in their area and head out in the morning. For even more fun, bring along bird and tree books to help your children identify plants and animals that are prevalent in your town.
Displaying flowers
It may be too early to start digging in your garden in April, but that doesn't mean you can't show off your love of fabulously bold and bright
fresh flowers
inside your home.

will add color and life to any room, getting you ready to be back in touch with nature. A collection of flowers like Teleflora's Country Basket Blooms is wonderful for spring. This arrangement of snapdragons, alstroemeria, mini carnations and matsumoto asters are placed together in a gorgeous natural basket. This collection certainly embraces all nature has to offer - there's even a decorative butterfly adorned to the handle of the basket.
