Gift spending for Father's Day

A new report from the National Retail Federation (NRF) suggests that dads everywhere can look forward to more than just a homemade card and a t-shirt for Father's Day this year.

The organization is forecasting that individuals will increase their spending on Father's Day gifts this year by about $10.

"Shoppers seem to be more excited when it comes to gift giving, an encouraging sign for retailers - and dads - everywhere," said Matthew Shay, NRF president.

Kids are expected to spend an average of $106.49 on their fathers this year, according to the NRF. That's up from average gift spending of $94 in 2010. In total, Father's Day spending is expected to be about $11 billion.

While many children choose to give their dads traditional gifts such as ties, electronics and sporting goods, many also choose to show their fathers how much they mean to them by sending Father's Day flowers.
