A sunflower still life by Paul Gauguin painted as a tribute to fellow artist Vincent Van Gogh will soon be up for auction by Christie's in London after its stint at the Tate Modern Museum.

The London Evening Standard reports that the painting, dubbed Nature Morte à L'Espérance, may sell for as much as 10 million pounds, stealing the spotlight at the Impressionist and modern art auction taking place February 9.

Gauguin painted the tribute 11 years after his friend and former collaborator Van Gogh committed suicide. Gauguin produced a total of four sunflower paintings in Van Gogh's memory, and this will be the first time it's appearing in public since 1989, according to the news source.

Sunflowers make excellent fresh flowers as well as muses for the easel thanks to their bright, cheery disposition. According to TheFlowerExpert.com, sunflowers convey pure thoughts, adoration and dedication and can represent one's feelings of dedicated love, and conversely, an attitude of haughtiness.

Place a sunflower bouquet in your kitchen or bedroom to lend a summertime warmth to the cold, winter months.
