Garden of hope honors cancer survivor

The Intergraph Garden of Hope in Huntsville, Alabama , honored three cancer survivors for fall 2010, reports CanadaViews.ca.

For this fall three gardens were dedicated to Teresa Arce, Ken Kavanaugh and Terry Lewis who battled ovarian, prostate and breast cancer, respectively.

The Garden of Hope is a partnership between Intergraph and the Botanical Garden. Intergraph’s employees, volunteers and honorees and their families plant the gardens. They exist in order to grant families the creative freedom to convey their struggles through flowers and plants.

“For the three honorees recognized today, these peaceful gardens of beautiful flowers, trees, plants and shrubs are symbols of strength and determination, and they are also reminders for all of us of how precious life is,” Halsey Wise, Intergraph chairman, president and CEO, told the news source.

Over the past decades many studies have revealed a strong connection between exposure to nature and decreased anxiety and stress levels. Recently a review of the phenomenon by Minnesota Medicine revealed that incorporating nature into health care systems may also improve outcome and recovery times.
