Recently, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the 67 members of the Morgan County Garden Club gathered for the "Brush of Color" flowers show.
According to MyJournalCourier.com, artistic arrangements, house plants, flowers and more were judged at the event. Anyone who wanted to was allowed to participate in the horticulture division, but the arrangements up for critique were exclusively made by members of the club.
Four judges who were certified by National Garden Clubs were called upon to judge the competitors. Martha Vache, who organized the show, told the source it was, "interesting to hear the judges. They had a hard time to decide who to place."
Best in Show went to Mary Lou Seymour-Smith, of Jacksonville. She created a design that featured day lilies and greenery for the "Festival of Color" category. She told the news provider that she would love for the event to become an annual occasion, as it encourages floral designers to keep up with their work.
Those who enjoy flowers should play close attention to which plants are in bloom before giving a loved one a bouquet. According to Flowers.org,uk, some of the best flowers for the month of July are sea holly, amazon lilies, irises and forsythia.
