WHAT: Bouquets to Art 2013 - floral designers pay tribute to and draw inspiration from the art in the de Young's permanent collections.

WHEN: From March 19 - March 23, 2013

It may feel like spring is never coming in parts of the U.S., but those in San Francisco might be pleasantly surprised if they visit the de Young Museum. KTVU reports this is because the museum's annual Flower Exhibition is up and running, showcasing the wonderful artwork that can be created using nature's gifts.

This year's exhibit, titled "Bouquets to Art 2013," features a slew of fabulous works of art. There are pieces constructed by 125 of San Francisco's most famed floral designers. Not only did the artists have the difficult task of creating art using fresh flowers, they had to do so by basing their unique arrangements off of paintings found in the museum.

According to the news source, this year's exhibit celebrates the 29th year the museum has run the fun, week-long event, which raises money to fund future exhibits at the facility. This year's program started on March 18 and those interested in attending will be able to take in different workshops and pieces each day.

For examples, guests who visit on certain days might get to see floral demonstrations by masterful artists, while others may be able to enter raffles and enjoy delicious appetizers.

Marin Independent Journal reports those in the Bay Area considering attending the exhibit might want to head to the museum on March 20. Current chief floral designer at the White House, Laura Dowling, will be speaking on this day, discussing what it's like to work at the White House and describing how she selects certain flowers and bouquets for different events, including parties and receptions as well as state dinners. Other guest speakers include Bill Taylor, a florist who once created arrangements for the Disney family. Taylor will present a talk on "The History of Flower Arranging from the Egyptians to the Present."
