Flower carpet comes to Taiwan
by
webdev
August 27, 2010
Visitors to Taichung city, located in central Taiwan, will have the chance to attend the 2010 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival this month.
The event is modeled in part on the world-famous flower carpet festival that takes place every year in Brussels, Belgium. This particular exhibit, however, incorporates unique Taiwanese style, according to Taiwan Today.
The display consists of nearly 300,000 pots of flowers that will be arranged to create an illusion of ripples. The center of the exhibit will feature five circles that symbolize the circle of happiness, giving the artwork its name - Ripples of Joy.
"A city's level of civilization does not lie in the glamorous appearances of its buildings, but in how happy its residents feel," said Wu Yong-jian, the designer of the exhibit. He is also known for creating the mascot for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo.
Attendees at the flower festival will also be treated to daily concerts, display booths and a handicraft market.
According to TheFlowerExpert.com, Taiwan's climate makes it an ideal place for flowers. Some of the most common flowers found in the nation include butterfly orchids, Cherokee roses, chrysanthemums and calamus.
