Floral arrangement classes educate women
by
webdev
September 29, 2010
Classes educating women in
floral arrangement
attracted many interested women in the Solomon Islands, the SolomonStarNews.com reports.
The classes were held in order to teach women the benefits of flowers in the environment and at home. Instructors also hoped the lessons would “help those who have never had any knowledge and skills in such area before,” Hazel Auga, one of the
floral
instructors at the event, told the news source.
In addition to the floral arrangement classes, cooking workshops were also held and aimed to teach women the importance of a healthy diet. A total of 60 women showed up for the classes on the first day.
Among the floral arrangement styles the women learned were the inverted crescent, S-shape, bottle and fan arrangement. Instructors hoped that the flower skills acquired at the workshops would be used to benefit the women economically, by enabling them to charge for their floral arranging services, the news source reports.
The Solomon Islands are home to more than 230 varieties of orchids, 4500
plant
species and many other tropical flowers, according to Rainforest-Facts.com.
