Exhibit showcases art in bloom

Individuals who appreciate beautiful spring flower bouquets and arrangements may enjoy seeing permanent pieces of art alongside the stunning arrangements inspired by them.

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is holding its 28th annual Art in Bloom festival, which highlights the talents of more than 150 floral artists, whose work will be on view next to the works of art that inspired them. Throughout the four-day festival, the entire museum will be filled with the scent of fresh flowers.

A special presentation scheduled for the festival is titled, "A History of flowers at the White House." This session features former chief floral designer at the White House Nancy Clarke, who created thousands of beautiful decorations and floral designs for six American presidents, their families and the world's foremost dignitaries.

Clarke will offer a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into select inner workings of the White House, sharing personal and professional anecdotes. Her talk will include insights into the distinctive styles of six First Ladies, and she will demonstrate classic White House decorations that are appropriate throughout the year, as well as holiday themes and other memorable design elements.

The exhibit runs from Thursday, April 28 through Sunday, May 1.
