Elementary school students use bouquets to brighten seniors' day

New Hampshire students provided flower delivery for senior citizens.

A group of kindergarten and second graders from the North Hampton school in North Hampton, New Hampshire, arranged flowers to bring to a home for senior citizens. They delivered the bouquets and cards to the Partridge House this past Monday.

"It teaches them so many lessons - about giving to the community, helping others, empathy, thinking about how others are feeling," Jessica Caldwell, the teacher of the participating kindergarten class, told the news source. "They were so proud to bring in the flowers for their project."

Additionally, this was an opportunity for many of the students who do not have grandparents nearby to interact with an older generation.

The youngsters cut and arranged the flowers in baskets, as well as made them personalized cards, according to the news source. This was the second year that the school organized such an event.

A study performed at Rutgers University showed that flowers can help seniors with memory recall, as well as ward of depression. For those who have a mother or father who is in a retirement home, a bouquet is an excellent gift idea.
