Disney Flower & Garden Expo underway

by webdev

March 15, 2011

Visitors to any of Disney's theme parks know to expect over-the-top, larger-than-life displays. This year's International Flower & Garden Festival being held at Epcot center is no exception.

The event, which runs through May 15, features more than 30 million flowers and 75 topiaries.

New to this year's festival are topiaries based on characters from Disney Pixar's Toy Story 3, including Woody, Buzz Lightyear and a pink-floral Lotso (a.k.a. Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear).

"It created unique challenges," said festival horticulture manager Eric Darden. "And it's meticulous work. Woody is skinny, and it was a challenge to create his legs. The detail on Buzz is pretty daunting."

The event, which is sponsored by HGTV, also features a colorful array of flowers, gardens, live music and special presentations. Other highlights include Bambi's Butterfly house, which features hundreds of native butterflies and topiaries from the Disney classic, and Rapunzel's Tower, which is a magical display inspired by Disney's new film, Tangled.

Throughout the festival, elaborate floral beds and entertaining exhibits will decorate the park landscape and showcase the extraordinary talents of Disney gardeners.

Admission to the flower show is included with Epcot admission.

Viewing these elaborate flower displays may inspire you to work with your florist to create a Disney-themed arrangement, bouquet or basket. These flower gifts are ideal for Disney fans of all ages!
