Decorating a mantel for the holidays

by webdev

November 30, 2011

Mantels are an important part of Christmas celebrations - after all, this is the route Santa Claus takes to deliver gifts, and is the place where "stockings are hung by the chimney with care," as the old poem goes.

If you are lucky enough to have a mantel to decorate this holiday season, it can be great fun to choose a new theme for this area. HGTV reports that a combination of silver, gold and white decor on the mantel can have a glowing yet snowy appearance. Spray pine swags with white paint and add white lights and ivory Christmas flowers before topping the look off with shimmery ornaments.

A lush green color scheme can still look Christmas-y, but may be especially charming on a mantel of a home in a warmer climate. Whether you use faux or fresh greenery, blend traditional evergreen boughs and pines with leafy vines and bright fruits. Accents of glass balls and solid color stockings will give the area its Christmas appeal, and a seasonal indoor plant like a Merry Christmas Cactus will finish the look.
