Brighten someone's day with flowers

According to WebMD, depression affects as many as 6 million adults over the age of 65 in the U.S., and it often goes untreated.

While clinical depression may require medical treatment, those who have a case of the blues may benefit from receiving a spring flowers bouquet.

Recent research done by scientists at Rutgers University was able to accurately gauge the effect of receiving flowers on senior citizens.

Participants in the study randomly received flower gifts and were interviewed and observed for changes in mood and behavior. They also answered questions about their social lives and current events as well as their memories.

The research found that getting flowers had an immediate positive impact. Those who received flowers had less depression, better memories and improved social interactions.

The findings prove that sending someone flowers "just because" can elicit a positive response. So, why not make someone's day and send them a bouquet of in-season spring flowers?

While sending flowers is a known way to cheer someone up, there are many other occasions in which flower gifts are appropriate, including expressing thanks, get well wishes, happy birthday, happy anniversary, apologies, condolences and more.
