MiGi and Teleflora have teamed up to create a fabulous line of baby bouquets. Today's post is from the trend-setting designers known as the MiGi Girls, Michele Adams and Gia Russo.
Creating a nursery is the time in your pregnancy to have fun and be creative! When we were both pregnant, Michele and I would discuss the ideas we had for our nurseries. Discussing your ideas with friends or family allows you to think clearly about your needs and wants.
Collecting tear sheets, making a list of the necessities, and deciding the budget is a great way to begin.
Next, think about the space you have in the room or in your home. It’s very important that the nursery is functional and comfortable. Measure all elements in the room – walls, windows, and floor space.
Map out the dimensions so you’ll know the sizes of the furniture you’ll need to purchase. This will prevent you from buying too much or the incorrect sizes for the room. If you live in a small space, don’t fret; there are many ways to create a functional, stylish space for the baby. Here are some ideas:
1. Purchase a co-sleeper to attach to your bed
2. Convert your dresser into a changing table by purchasing a converter top
3. Use the existing seating as the feeding area
4. Use a bookcase to incorporate baby’s toys and books
Once you’ve made those decisions, the real fun begins – decorating! Choosing a theme for the nursery will set the style for the room and help you pull it all together. Consider an icon, a flower, animal, monogram, childhood memory, color palette or keepsake when choosing your theme. Once you’ve chosen the theme, the color palette can be created around it. (See separate post for specific ideas.)
For the furniture, think long term. Consider the activities that will take place in the room: feeding, sleeping, changing, playing and storage.
We always advise thinking past the infant stage – purchase items that can transform into a toddler’s room. Here are the items you’ll need:
*Crib that converts into a toddler bed
*Dresser with a changing converter top or changing table that can be utilized as a dresser
*Rocker or comfy chair
*Modular storage pieces
*Comfy rug
*Window coverings with blackout lining
*Good lighting
Last, you’ll need some accessories to complete the look of the room. There are endless options available. When choosing these final details, refer back to your theme. Again, purchase lamps, rugs, and artwork that can grow with the baby.
You can’t go wrong with the design of this special space. The most important part is to have fun during the process. It will be a memory you’ll always cherish.
