Thanks to a Librarian!

There are so many people who make life easier or more enjoyable, and it’s exciting when we’re given the opportunity to recognize those people in our lives.  I’ve recently learned of a neat way to share a ‘thank you’ with your local librarian - nominate them for the “I Love My Librarian” contest!

I’ve got to confess, I’m a library lover.  Libraries, to me, are so important in a community - with the added bonus of lots of fun things to borrow for free!  So it makes sense that I was excited to learn about the contest, which is being sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the New York Times.

The way it works: people fill out the form to nominate a librarian, explaining how that librarian makes a difference in their community and submit the nomination form online.  The “I Love My Librarian” selection committee will choose up to 10 librarians as winners based on the nominations.  Each winner gets a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and a trip to New York City for the award ceremony.

If you want to say ‘Thanks’ to your librarian, there are lots of ways to show your appreciation! You could write a thank you letter, nominate them for the “I Love My Librarian” contest (and share what you’ve written), or send 'thank you' flowers.  No matter how you do it, it’s a great feeling to take a minute to recognize the people in your life (like your local librarian) and thank them for all they do!
